German Studies offers you the opportunity to learn German in a dynamic context by engaging with the literature, philosophy, history, and art of German-speaking lands.

You’ll also explore the contemporary culture of German-speaking countries, in particular Germany, Switzerland, and Austria. Students who minor in German will prepare themselves to spend time abroad on an exchange, internship, or continuing education in any number of fields—from the humanities and sciences to politics—while also learning about German literary history and its impact on contemporary culture. If you intend to focus your studies in this area, you can do so through either a minor in German or a major in Comparative Studies in Literature and Culture with a German emphasis.
